Cookie Policy

The cookies this website uses, what each one is for and how to change your choice.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to keep on your computer, phone or tablet. The website can read it again later, which is how it remembers something, such as a choice you made.

This page lists the cookies used on the Neil Green Services Ltd website. When you first visit, the website sets no cookies. It asks you about analytics cookies, and nothing is set until you have chosen.

Necessary cookies

The website needs these to work, so they are not switched on and off with the others.

  • ngs_cookie_consent remembers the choice you made on the cookie banner, so that we do not ask you again on every page. It holds your choice, the version of the banner you saw, the time you chose and a random reference. It holds nothing else about you. It lasts for six months, and then we ask you again.
  • WordPress login cookies are set only when our own staff log in to manage the website. Visitors do not get them.

The online booking page also keeps the access key from the link in your service reminder in your browser until you close the tab, so that the form still works if you reload the page. This uses your browser’s session storage. It is not a cookie.

Analytics cookies

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to count visits and to see which pages are used. Google Analytics is loaded through Google Tag Manager. Neither is loaded unless you accept. Google then sets these cookies:

  • _ga tells one visitor from another. It lasts for two years.
  • _ga_ followed by an ID keeps track of your visit from one page to the next. It lasts for two years.

The purposes and lifespans are the ones Google publishes for these cookies.

If you accept, the website also stores how you found the site in your browser, using your browser’s session storage rather than a cookie, in an item called ngs_source. It is set only once you accept analytics cookies, and holds the page you landed on, the website that sent you here, if any, and any campaign information in the address, such as a utm parameter or whether a gclid parameter was present. It is first-party and lasts only until you close the tab or browser. We only receive it if you then send the enquiry form.

If you reject analytics cookies, Google Analytics is not loaded and these cookies are not set, and the ngs_source item is removed. Our privacy policy explains what Google Analytics records and how long that is kept.

How to change your choice

Use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page. You can accept or reject analytics cookies there at any time. If you withdraw your consent, Google Analytics stops being loaded and the website deletes the two analytics cookies from your browser.

You can also delete or block cookies in your browser’s own settings.

The record of your choice

When you choose, the website records the choice against the random reference in your cookie, so that we can show the choice was made. The record holds no name, IP address or other detail about you. You can see your reference under Cookie settings.
